A short post today since we have to take Veronica trick or treating before all the good candy is taken. Thanks to Auntie Kristin for the Halloween outfit. I don't think Veronica would have tolerated a costume this year, but a t-shirt and a funny hat go a long way when you're only a month old.Friday, October 31, 2008
Happy Halloween!
A short post today since we have to take Veronica trick or treating before all the good candy is taken. Thanks to Auntie Kristin for the Halloween outfit. Philadelphia Phever
Grandmom made the trip to Seattle to meet Veronica last week. They had a great time and spent most of their time together cuddling, cuddling, and even made some time for cuddling. We all had a great time together and then the weirdest thing happened. Philadelphia Phever has clearly reached epidemic proportions because I had never seen that before. Veronica came down with the phever on Sunday. There is no known cure to date.In other news... Uncle Simon spoke the truth through a onesie, Veronica met Rhetick, and Veronica gave Daddy her first hug the other day*.
*Veronica was actually trying to pull her arms together to fall asleep and Daddy's neck got in the way

Separated at birth... and the space time continuum
This was supposed to be a much larger post, but we left the camera and the past week's worth of photos at a friend's house yesterday. Until then, please enjoy a video of Veronica nuzzling into Momma after a feeding.
And thank you to Stu and Syl for the adorable ladybug outfit.

Mimi is mine
Mimi flew to Seattle to meet Veronica this week. We had a lot of laughs and Mimi thought Veronica was cute enough to eat. Veronica enjoyed meeting a grandmother because grandmothers spoil grandchildren. Lucky for Momma and Daddy, spoiling a two week old baby means lots of adorable sleepers and onesies. Sorry Veronica, you'll have to wait for another Mimi trip to learn about chocolate milk and Chuck E Cheese.

Meet the Heaters
After recovering from every illness that pre-school could throw at him, Henry finally got to meet Veronica last night. Henry belongs to our dear friends (and fellow bloggers) Auntie Maggie and Uncle Ben. Henry was very interested in Veronica and enjoyed petting her on the head. Henry is three and half years older than Veronica, so it might take a while for their friendship to develop. But he will surely be Veronica's beer connection in another 15+ years depending on when he gets his fake id, so everyone remember this face.Momma is finally feeling like her beautiful self again and has lifted the photography embargo. She pumped for the first time yesterday and Daddy fed Veronica her first bottle. Hopefully pumping and bottles will lead to midnight feedings from Daddy and longer periods of continuous beauty sleep for Momma.

Alert! Alert! Veronica is alert for once...

It appears that Veronica has inherited her mother's love of sleeping. While that is surely because all newborns sleep unless they are eating, we are holding out hope that Veronica is going to be a good sleeper. Her alert time after eating is the funnest part of the day and largely spent playing "where's Daddy?". Veronica wins the bronze most of the time, but with more practice and a developed retina we're sure she can go for the gold.
Ok, it's late Veronica. Time to go to bed.

Cats in the craddle and the silver spoon...

It's hard to believe, but Veronica is a week old today. She's growing up so fast. To celebrate Veronica's big day we decided to give her a bath and venture outside the house to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Don't even try to tell Veronica that her parents don't know how to throw a good party.
Other than that, we've just been lounging around the house. Nothing else to report. Wave goodnight to all the nice people Veronica.

Drinking to get drunk...

Veronica is at her cutest immediately after feeding when she is absolutely drunk on breast milk. Attempts to capture her drunken coos on video have been unsuccessful, but stay tuned.
Veronica also received vistors this weekend. Based on a very strong recommendation from her cousin Lucia, Veronica had her Uncle Sean over last night. And Auntie GG stopped by too with Alison's favorite turkey sandwich from Jimmy Johns. Lunchmeat is one of the many items that Alison couldn't eat during the pregnancy and turkey sandwiches were sorely missed. I would include a picture, but the sandwich didn't last long enough to be photographed.

You can call me anything you like, but my name is Veronica...
We are back from the hospital and adjusting to life at home. We are settling into a feeding schedule and Alison will be great as soon as we can incorporate a sleep schedule with that.
The moment of birth was a little scary since Veronica had the cord wrapped around her neck and needed a few moments before her lungs kicked in (it felt like 3 weeks for us, but it could have been a little less than that).
Other than that, we are working on our swaddling technique. Don't believe anyone that says it's like wrapping a burrito. I've wrapped a burrito, beans and rice don't move.
Hopefully the blog updates will be frequent, although other parents seem to hit their blog posting stride after a few months. Scientists currently hypothesize that an increased rate of blog posting is directly proportional to the baby's ability to sleep through the night.
